Goal: Write an advertisement to sell our chickens

Writing goal

CHICKENS FOR SALE!!!

Our school is selling a variety of friendly chickens who have had lots of care and aroha. They are on a steady diet of greens and High Quality grain. They get Two and a half bottles of grain per day. They are drinking fresh water that has to be cleaned every day. The chickens are laying medium eggs with bright yellow yolks. Maybe if you are lucky you may get a double yolk. The chickens all lay except the little ones who aren’t old enough but they are nearly ready. Each lunchtime they get let out to stretch their legs and have a scratch around. They have lived in a big coop with lots of room for them to run around in. Feel free to come in and buy them.

Handwriting 2

Something I did well-I did my sloping really well I think I achieved my goal.
New goal- Show neatness and care in presentation.

Interview Questioner

Parent Interead that has got interviews - Yearly Reflections

My writing goal is (have you changed it, why?) - My writing goal is to use poetic language to add description(simile, alliteration,  exaggeration, personification). No I didn’t change my writing goal because I still need to work on using description and personification.  I use description in the stories we write online.

I practice this by rewriting stories that I have read that has descriptive language in it.
A piece of writing I am proud of is - Big vs bigger. Because I used a lot of descriptive language in it.

In maths I am currently learning (how do you feel about this, what are your next steps? Give your parents a rundown of what we do as well) We were learning to add and subtract numbers in the hundreds. Like 284 - 279 =. I feel really confused because why don’t you take 20 away not just 10? Mr Dillon has also downloaded some math games like maths vs zombies and they are really fun. Mr Dillon also makes us work out problems as a group then we come down to the mat and we shark tank a group. Shark tank is where we ask lots questions from talk move card stuck on the board.

Reading - Share your reading work (talk about some of the things you do in reading.) In reading we have been using “I think that means”. I think that means is when we read a part of a book then Mr Dillon asks us what do you think that means? In reading we also read really challenging books with big words in it.

Do you have any other goals you would like to share, what are you doing to achieve them? I have my handwriting goals, My handwriting goals are,
- neatly rule off on the line
- Slope letters consistently.
I am trying to achieve it by each time I write I slope.

Pick 3 more pieces of work from your blog (write why you are going to share them and what you were learning to do)

  • Bike safety
  • Spelling testing
  • Business Reflection

Business Reflection

Image result for compostOver the last few weeks we have been researching and looking at websites about our business. My group has been looking at making compost. I have learned that you need to use Grass clippings, Scraps/home scraps(tea bags), Garden flowers that have finished sprouting, coffee grinds, chicken manure(chicken poop), hay and leaves. We have decided that we will work together as a whole class to use personal best to work at business so we can get further. We will be trying to sell chickens, make graphs, make grain, compost, building nesting boxes and growing food.

Bike Safety

Bike safety with Senior Jono

Yesterday we had bike safety with Senior Jono one of the stratford policeman. He told us where we can ride and what parts there are on a bike. He also taught us all the hand signals that we need to do on the road if we are cycling. After he had finished telling us all about the bike and the things we need to know he told us to go outside and get our bikes. Most people had brought their bikes but the people who hadn’t got to use some of the ones Senior Jono brought along in his trailer. There was another lady who helped Senior Jono teach us about bike safety and her name was Jody. When we were outside Senior Jono taught us the power pedal. After he had taught us the power pedal we had to go around a course that was laid out on the basketball court. On the course there was a roundabout at the other end of the court. As well as having to go around the roundabout we also had to give way to the people going around the circle. After we had gone around the court a few times we had to walk our bikes down to the back field with Jody while Senior Jono was packing up. We were walking our bikes down to the back field because we were going to have a few races. The first race was called the slow race, we had to go the slowest we can without putting our feet on the ground. If we put our feet on the ground we were stuck in the mud. After we had, had Two of the slow races we had Two fast races. We had to race to the other end, do Five star jumps then hop back onto our bike and then race back to the start. We had alought of fun at bike safety.

Maths Blog Reflection

The name of my fraction is: One Eighth - 1/8

I know my answer is correct because: If you have a whole and you make lots of the Eighth's then you put them all together and it makes One whole.

My life as a chicken named Storm

Image result for A pitched black baby chicken

My life as a chicken named Storm

Chirp, chirp, chirp that’s the sound of a black chicken. Well it’s no ordinary chicken, it’s a pitched black chicken whose name is Storm. When I was born I looked like an Ostrich. The people in Room 5 put a Yellow bande around my leg to identify me. They named me Storm because I am as black as a thunder cloud. I am still quite young, only four weeks old. Each day I get taken out of a little brooder box and get put onto a plastic mat. They look after me well. They also get kids from other classrooms to have a look at me and all the other chickens. There is one little boy one Room 5 who looks after me well. His name is Leslie. He keeps me really cozy. I sleep under a heat lamp that keeps me warm when I am not in his arms. Each morning some kids come out and put me onto a plastic mat and start cleaning my home. I usually hang out with Chicken little and Inky the other two little chickens. We don’t hang out with the big ones because they peck and bully us. Sometimes Room 5 are a little too noisy and and we cuddle up to  our babysitters. There is no other chicken that looks like me so that makes me special. Once someone turned off the heat lamp and I thought I was going to freeze. Luckily enough a boy called Harrison came to the rescue. My crest is growing very fast. I think that I am a hen not a rooster. My life at Toko school is awesome I never want to leave.

Dai Henwood's story

Goal :

  • Retell a story in my own words.

  • Use poetic language to add description(simile, alliteration,  exaggeration, personification).
Hemi hated doing the lawns, his dad asked him every weekend, every weekend to mow the lawns. One weekend Hemi walked outside looking glum. His dad had just said that if the lawns weren’t mowed by the end of the week Hemi wouldn’t get any pocket money. Hemi pulled out his wallet and opened it, all that came out was three red fly’s. Hemi looked down at the long, green grass that was as wet as a swimming pool that was up to his knees. He felt really annoyed. He kicked the grass and it waved back and forth for a few minutes. All Hemi felt like doing right now was making one of his latest robot inventions. Suddenly Hemi had a bright idea. What if he made a robot lawnmower? Hemi walked off to the shed. He looked in boxes, cupboards and old sacks lying here and there. He found, a pair of old scissors, a blender, some old steak knives, dad’s nose trimmer, a laser pointer and some old guitar strings to tie it together. “Now I will make my own lawnmower invention to mow the lawns” Hemi happily danced  around the place. That night Hemi stayed up late to make his robot. He had just finished when there was a lightning streak and Hemi yelled “ he’s alive!” The next thing he knows is that the robot has blown up “oh no, false alarm” was Hemi’s next statement. It was going to be longgggg night.

The next morning Hemi wheeled his mysterious invention onto the lawn where his dad had asked him to mow.  Hemi took the purple blanket off the mysterious machine and without looking threw it behind him. He pulled out a pitched black remote that was in his pocket. “On,start, mower, set” Hemi mumbled to himself. The robot lawnmower jumped out of the trolley and raced to the start of the lawn. The steak knives going round and round as fast as a rocket hurtling into space.  In no time the lawn mower had finished mowing the front lawn. The next day was the same. While the lawn mower was mowing the lawns at the back of Hemi’s house Hemi fell asleep to the hum of the mower. Hemi woke with a start, what had woken him? In a distance Hemi heard a crowd yelling and his mysterious robot was nowhere to be seen. He raced out of his back yard and sprinted towards the village. To his surprise he was running through his neighbor's back yard. He looked back and saw that all the fences were lying on the ground except for there stumps. As Hemi got to the village it was even more bizarre. There was cats and dogs running every with half leashes on. What had his robot lawnmower done? Out of the corner of his eye Hemi saw a large crowd gathering around and there was the humming of his robot lawnmower. When Hemi reached the crowd he was out of breath there in the middle of the crowd was the lawnmower in a deep hole. There were people looking very mad everywhere. Hemi noticed that his Mum and Dad’s car was parked outside a hotel room and they were coming out looking very mad. Suddenly the noise died down and Hemi couldn’t hear the humming of his robot lawnmower. Hemi pushed through the crowd and made his way towards the hole that the robot had made. To his surprise the robot just lay there doing nothing. It was dead. Now Hemi does the lawns by hand.

Calendar art

Goal:  Produce a piece of art using mixed media.

What I did: I got a piece of paper and put red, orange and yellow paint onto a nice piece of paper. Then I mixed black paint with Indian ink and painted the tree with that colour. Next I painted on green leaves and red flowers. Finally I took a picture of myself and glued it on the tree.

What I liked: I like how my picture and my background go well together.

Speech Board Reflection

Speech Board Reflection What I spoke about - I spoke about when my house was renovated. I told the lady that the Aden Larsen builders had renovated our house. My favorite part was when I told her that there was 9 people in family. What I did well - I spoke about when they ripped apart our kitchen well and I put lots of information in about where the old things used to be and where the plan said the new things were to go. I also started my speech well. I spoke fluently too. How I would improve my presentation next time - I would tell the lady a bit more about what my old house looked like and I would finish with a firm ending. I would also tell them what we changed outside the house as well as inside.

BIG vs BIGGER

Big vs Bigger - Complete story from Ministry of Education on Vimeo.

GOALS:

W.A.L.T - retell stories in our own words.

-   Organise our writing with a clear beginning, middle and end.

-   Use google apps for online writing.

                                                                      The story:

The kids who ruled the neighborhood

In Shantytown there was a big bully,  his name was Sean. When I am talking big I don’t mean big I mean enormous.  He simply ruled the neighbourhood. One day he was waiting on the street for a bus to come. When it finally came he picked it up with his bare hands and lifted it way above his head. He started shaking the bus then suddenly he threw it onto the ground, the kids came out looking rather dazed. He caught hold of one of the kids and said.  ”Did you bring my lunch today?” The kid shuddered “Um,you can have all my chicken nuggets Sean.”Thanks little friend”teased Sean. Then big Steve walked up, an even bigger kid that had moved into the neighbourhood.
He walked  up  behind Sean and gave him such a fright that Sean dropped the kid and the lunch box flung out of the kids hands and landed neatly in Sean’s. Big Steve was so big he was as big as a bus. He asked in a gruff voice. “Can Big Steve smell chicken nuggets?” Sean without answering threw the lunch box high into the air and it landed in his mouth, lunch box and all. “All gone “ he said smartly. This made Big Steve ferocious, he pulled a tin of pink paint out of the bag that was on his back, and held it above Sean’s head and poured it on top of Sean. Now Sean wasn’t in his green uniform he was now in his pink uniform. All the normal sized kids burst into fits of laughter. Big Steve looked at them and grumbled,”what are you kids laughing at? Lookout or you’ll be next.” The kids instantly stopped laughing and stepped back. The kids had, had enough of one big kid bossing them around but two! They just couldn’t handle them. It was time for the normal sized kids to fight back.

One of the kids took out a phone and looked up the number for chicken nuggets. The kid asked for a special delivery. A few seconds later a truck arrived in front of big Steve and Sean. Then they both gobbled it all up. But the chicken nuggets weren’t just normal chicken nuggets. They were super inflatable chicken nuggets! But they didn’t read the box, then Big Steve and Sean burped and started blowing up.Big Steve was terrified.” The normal kids said. “Jokes on you two it's volleyball time”and they floated away.”Oh oh this wasn’t supposed to happen” “It’s all your fault”sulked big Steve. “Yeah but you poured pink paint on me” “If you just gave me the chicken nuggets in the first place I wouldn’t of covered you in pink paint and we wouldn’t be here” said big Steve.  They both were very disgusted at their bad behaviour towards the normal sized kids.  “If we want  to get out of here we will have to pop” said Sean. Big Steve didn’t like the idea he thought it would be to messy, but he
co - operated. Sean saw a satellite in a distance and so he took Big Steve’s hand and they floated to the satellite. They started swirling around and around. Finally they were at the satellite. Sean hesitated for a moment but then just flew at it and… Popped! They started flying at full speed onto New Zealand. When they landed they were the normal sized again. Big Steve had , had his bag on his back the whole time even when they were blowing up. The normal sized kids were getting to like Big Steve and Sean being there size and so asked if they wanted a game of something. The kid who Sean had stolen the chicken nuggets from said that he was keen to have a game. Life was going well now in Shantytown. That was until Big  Stewart an even BIGGER kid came into the neighbourhood. Big Stewart was as big as a giant and everyone was afraid of him.

Calf And Lamb Day

W.A.L.T - Reflection on our Calf and Lamb day work.

What I did - This year I did a rock art creation for the hall of creativity. First we had to choose a rock. Then we had to put our initials on the back of our rock. Since my brother is C.H. I wrote C.H. Room - 5. The next day Mrs Fergus sprayed white paint on our rocks. After that we went on the internet to search up what we were doing. I chose a chicken standing next to a egg. After we had chosen we traced it onto our rock. Finally the next day we coloured in the pictures we drew with special felts from America. I coloured my chicken yellow and my egg white. We also had to have background. Since chickens lay in straw I did a brown background for the straw.

What I would change - I would change the background because I just coloured it in.I could make it look a bit more like straw by crisscrossing the brown.

Other comments - I am proud of my chicken because I drew it by hand and I have never done it before. I also think I can work on the shape of my egg because it was a bit hard drawing it.

My Puppy Likes The Water

My puppy likes the water

My puppy likes the water,
My puppy likes to swim,
I've never seen a puppy who swims as much as him.

He swims not on the surface,G
but only underneath.
And maybe I should warn you
he has very scary teeth.
Whenever people see him
they're frightened of his grin.

Or maybe it,s his lack of fur.
Or maybe it's his fin.
If you should buy a puppy,
just get the kind that barks.
Don't be like me.
I bought mine at a store that just sells sharks.

Our Teacher Sings The Bettles

Our Teacher Sings the Beatles

--Kenn Nesbitt

Our teacher sings The Beatles.
She must know every song.
We ask her please to stop
but she just sings, “It Won’t Be Long.”
And then she croons like Elvis.
She clearly thinks it’s cool.
And if we beg her not to
she just belts out, “Don’t be Cruel.”
She then does Michael Jackson.
It drives us nearly mad.
We have to cover up our ears
because she’s singing, “Bad.”
She winds up with The Wiggles
or else a Barney song,
and, even worse, she tells us all
that we should sing along.
It’s all my fault she does this.
I feel like such a fool.
I wish I’d never brought

my karaoke box to school.

Poem Selection

When grandma goes for gold in the Olympic games this year, she’ll laugh at her competitors and make them quake with fear.

She’s ninety nine years old but,in athletics she’s been blessed. The trouble is she can’t decide which sport she plays the best.

She such an ace at archery she’s queen of the canoe  she’s tough to top at taekwondo and table tennis too.

She dominates the diving board she tromps the trampoline at lifting weights shes the best you’ve ever seen.

She speeds across the swimming pool to slake the summer heat on BMX and Mountain bike she simply can’t be beat.

She’s highest in the high jump she a champ at hammer throwing magnificent in marathons remarkable at rowing.

She beats the best at boxing. At the pole vault she is peerless her fencing is the finest; She is positively fearless

She’s masterful at basketball,She truly rules the court and equally incredible at every other sport.

But what we find astonishing and something of a shocker is how she win all contest with her wheelchair and her walker.

Reflection Number 2

Already?I thought as I came through the door."We have a chicken already"Said Lexi walking up to me."Can you believe it"?The day was Monday the 21st of August. You could feel the excitement rising in the air.Room 5 had been waiting for this specific day for Barry to hatch. When Barry had dried out we still hadn't put him in the brooder box.We hadn't because we were waiting for another chicken to be Barry's friend or he'd be lonely. The next day I came to school I couldn't believe my eyes! There was 7 more baby chickens! One of the chickens was mine.It had a strip of Yellow on it's head and it was Black.Sadly my chicken has a bad leg so we might kill it.

Dairy Entry

I was talking to Mr Dillon on a cold interesting morning when Mrs Hancock came in and told Mr Dillon he needed to go and get something.I felt perplexed.

A few minutes later Mr Dillon came back with a big cardboard box that said "Fragile".When the bell rang Mr Dillon brought the box down to the mat. When all the kids were in he opened the lid and all we saw was paper.Mr Dillon started taking out all the paper and at the bottom there were 4 egg cartons with 6 eggs in each. The next day.Mr Dillon said that we were going to put the eggs in the .Incubator.We needed to date them first,so we dated them with blue vivid and normal pencil. When we put them in the Incubator 3 of them were to big so they broke. They weren't cracked open fully,so once we had put then all in the Incubator Mr Dillon got a grey container and cracked the eggs open.We could see a little white dot on one of them.4 boys missed out on dating the eggs because they didn't really want to do the dating. We had one blue egg as well.

Something I am looking forward to is looking after the little chickies. I  am thinking on naming my chicken Rosa.If it is a black one because they are shiny and friendly.I am worried that some of the chickens won't hatch. It's really exciting to be looking after some chickens.
